Prepare these documents for your Permanent Residency in 2026!

The Federal Government of Canada, specifically IRCC, announced in November the immigration goals for 2026 and 2027. This plan mentions that there will be a pathway to transition for Permanent Residency for up to 33,000 temporary workers currently residing in the country.

Although full details and requirements have not been announced yet, we want to share this document checklist that can help you prepare to get these documents in advance, so you do not waste time and can be one of the first people to apply once the pathway opens.

These documents tend to be required in other existing immigration programs in the past; for that reason, we believe it is a great idea to start working on having them.

  • Valid passport for more than 6 months.

  • Recent digital colour photo.

  • Proof of status in the country (study or work permit).

  • Details of international travel in the last 5-10 years (exact dates).

  • Details of employment positions in the last 5-10 years in Canada and abroad (exact dates, company’s name, job description, and NOC/TEER code).

  • Final transcripts.

  • Final degree certificate.

  • ECA “Educational Credential Assessment” report.

  • English Test results - IELTS, CELPIP, PTE

  • French Test results - TEF, TCF.

  • Medical Exam by an approved physician by IRCC.

  • Employment verification letter with exact dates, company’s name, job description, and NOC/TEER code.

  • Police Certificate of every country you have lived in for more than 6 months in the last 10 years.

  • Birth certificates, marriage certificates, or death certificates of immediate family members.

We know that getting some of these documents can take weeks or even months, so you should start working on getting these documents to be able to send your application as soon as possible, because most programs have a count limit and a deadline.

*Remember this list is not exhaustive, and the immigration pathway may require different or additional documents.

*Do not forget to translate all your documents into one of the official languages of Canada - English or French. The translation must be certified.
